Los Salmos nacieron de la experiencia cotidiana de un pueblo que, con sencillez y pasión, describe la amistad de Dios con los hombres, usando las imágenes propias del mundo en el cual vive. El Señor, de pastor que nos guía por caminos inaccesibles, se convierte también en el que nos defiende en la batalla contra el asalto de los enemigos. Jesús oró a menudo con los Salmos. A los doce años, peregrino hacia el templo de Jerusalén, cantó los Salmos previstos para el camino: “Me alegré cuando me dijeron: vamos a la casa del Señor; ya están pisando nuestros pies tus umbrales, Jerusalén”. (Salmo 121)
The Psalms grew from the daily experiences of simple and passionate people using the images of the world they lived in, describing the friendship between God, men and women. The Lord, a shepherd who guides us through inaccessible ways, becomes a warrior who defends us in battle against the assault of enemies. Jesus often prayed the Psalms. At the age of twelve, as a pilgrim going toward the temple of Jerusalem, he prayed in song the Psalms selected for the way. “I rejoiced with those who said to me, ‘Let us go to the house of the Lord!’ And now we have set foot within your gates, O Jerusalem!” (Psalm 121)
