About the Editors:
Josef Neuner, SJ, born in 1908 in Feldkirch, Austira, entered the novitiate of the South German Province of the Society of Jesus in Feldkirch. After the novitiate he studies philosophy at the University of Philosophy in Munich in Pullach and theology at the Jesuit University in Valkenburg, Netherlands and was ordained a priest in 1936. His wish to go to the mission was initially rejected, but in 1938 he was able to go to Bombay, where he was responsible for the formation of priests, he received his doctorate in religious studies on the dissertation titled “The Sacrifice Doctrine of the Bhagavad Cita” at the Pontifical Gregorian University in Roma and taught dogmatics at the newly founded De Nobili College and at the Jnana Deepa Vidyapeeth (Pontifical Atheneum) in Pune since 1948. He was professor emeritus of Jnana Deepa Vidyapeeth, Institute of Philosophy and Religion, Pune, whe the taught theology for forty years. He was a peritus at the Second Vatican Council. He had edited various symposia, written on spirituality and contributed articles international journals on theology and inter-religious dialogue. He was a spiritual adviser to Mother Teresa and probably the world’s oldest Jesuit who died on 3 December 2009 at the age of 101 in Pune, India.

Jacques Dupuis, SJ was born on 5 December 1923 at Huppaye in Belgium. After entering the Jesuit order as a novice in 1941, he opted to be a missionary in India. Ordained in 1954, Dupuis began a long immersion in South Asian religions and Catholic theology of religions. He obtained a doctorate in Theology at the Gregorian University in Rome on the religious anthropology of Origen of Alexandria and was assigned to teach Dogmatic Theology at the Jesuit Facutly of Theology of Kurseong, later shifted to Delhi, and renamed “Vidyajyoti College of Theolgy” from 1960 to 1984. From 1984 he was on the faculty of theology of the Pontifical Gregorian University, Rome and later professor emeritus at the same university. He has authored several books and written numerous articles on Christology, the theology of religions and of mission to various international journals. He was the Dicrector of the journal Gregorianum. He died on 28 December 2004.

Editors of the Revised and Enlarged Edtion:
Leonard Fernando, SJ is the Rector of St Joseph’s College, Tiruchirappalli, India. He has served as the Principal at Vidyajyoti College of Theology, Delhi for 10 years and worked as a Professor of Church History and Systematic Theology at various Colleges in India and Europe. He was the editor of Indian Church History Review (1999-2008), Vidyajyoti Journal of Theological Reflection (2010-2016). Since 2012, he has been the General Editor of History of Christianity in India, a series published by the Church History Association of India of which he has been the President since 2017. He has authored/edited 11 books and published over 110 articles in national and international journals.

D. John Romus is a Professor of Religion and Philosophy at St. Xavier’s University, Kolkata. He was the former Dean of Theology at Morning Star College, Barrackpore, Kolkata, where he taught theology and philosophy for 28 years. He was Visiting Professor of Interreligious Relations at Madurai-Kamaraj University. Tamil Nadu (1997-2002), and of Inter-Cultural Theology in the North India Institute of Post-Graduate Theolgocial Studies at Serampore Theological College, West Bengal (2007-2016). He has authored and edited books and contributes articles to journals on matters of religion, philosophy and culture.
