OUR LADY OF FATIMA
Our Lady of Fatima (in Portuguese: “Nossa Senhora de Fátima”) is one of the names with which the Catholic Church venerates Mary, the Mother of Jesus. On the 13th of May, 1917, the shepherdesses Lucia dos Santos, 10 years old, and Giacinta Marto, 7 years old, and the shepherd boy Francisco Marto, 9 years old, the brother of Giacinta and cousin of Lucia, while they were caring for their flock in the area of the Cova da Iria close to the Portuguese city of Fatima, claim to have seen coming down out of a cloud the figure of a woman dressed in white with a rosary in her hand whom they identified as the Madonna. She urged the children – and all of us – to pray the Rosary daily for peace in the world.
